“Believe for It”

by | Jun 10, 2024

Courage isn’t always a lion’s ROAR it’s sometimes the heart at the end of the day saying, I will try again tomorrow. No matter how tough life gets, Just Keep Pushing. Better and brighter tomorrows are just ahead.

I wrote this sentiment a few years ago and it is still very relevant today. As today marks year 29 of my “wheeled life”, it gives me pause and a retrospective assessment of all the miles, milestone, amazing memories, and battles fought along this SCI journey. Life with a complete traumatic spinal injury is extremely challenging at times to say the least, having sporadic feeling and little control in over 3/4 of my body, unpredictable muscle tone and spasticity where I’m unable to cognitively make my legs move, but powerless to stop them from violently moving on their own. Heat and cold intolerance, bradycardia, autonomic dysreflexia, pressure sensitivity, a laundry list of medications, urinary tract disorders, hand dexterity issues, etc.… all of which could be seen as “debilitating” but are just par for the ride. I don’t say this for sympathy or anything, but to keep things real.

While I could mourn what might have been, the reality is I choose to celebrate what is… A second chance at life, amazing opportunities, and so many friendships I might have missed but for this injury and the life that has followed.

My brother, Cameron, allowed me to do “the impossible” and thanks to Ms. CeCe Winans, I also had a theme song.

No matter what happens in life, do the impossible, believe for it, and love life every day….

Song used with permission one:eight entertainment.
